Re: [1302 eGroup] buying a beetle

George,
You will be looking for a car older than 1968. £2K would be a good budget
for a car of this age.
With regard to the engine size, the only cars that were available, as standard,
with a larger engine were the GT Beetle (1600) and the 1968 1500 - Or the
1302s or 1303s (They both have 1600 engines). All others will be either
1200 or 1300 as standard. You may find however that 1300 cars have had their
engines changed for 1600 (or bigger) units.

Engine choice will depend also on your driving style. 12 & 1300 cars have
drum front brakes as standard. The 15 & 1600 cars will have disc front brakes.
That said you can convert the drum braked cars to discs quite easily. I
have a car with a 1300, 1500 & 1600 engines & by far the fastese is the
1300. OK this has a lot to do with the fact that I have tuned it alot but
drive loads & make up your own mind!

Again I would re-inforce the point about the Leaded & un-leaded fuel & dont
worry about it. Run the car on Unleaded (or preferably Super unleaded with
the higher Octane rating)
