you do take the inlet manifolds off - there are some rubber seals -
make certain they are in good condition or you have some new ones or
you will have air leaks which are a big problem<<

Don't forget the spark plugs (they too, are a pain in the tuchus to
replace with the engine in the car, especially with dual-ports).

Ivan While your motor is out - Check the valves - never easier - and if you have a single carburetor, you could take off the inlet manifolds and clean them...

Have the flywheel turned to surface it at your local machine shop. You will be taking it off to replace the main seal anyway. valves and inlets and sparkplugs...
