>>I am from the USA. Is my 1971 Super Beetle a 1302 also or is that
just a UK designation? I have never heard of, or seen a 'VW 1302 S'
name plate on any Super Beetle in all of my life here in the USA.
Even the literature shown here as copies of the original brochures
seems to not mention anything about 1302 on the USA copy and it's
mentioned all over the UK copy. What's the truth? Thanks, Darrell<<
Being from The U.S. also, the "1302" and "1303" designations seemed
weird to me a few years ago. What makes a "1302" different from
a "1303" is the windshield and dashboard. The "1302" is known as the
flat-windshield Super Beetle and the "1303" is known as the curved-
windshield Super Beetle. Some may say that the '71-'73 "3-bolt strut"
suspension is a "1302" and the '74-later "2-bolt strut" as
the "1303", but that is incorrect. It's the windshield that
determines it. I refitted a '74-later front suspension on my '72.
Anyhoo, both the "1302" and "1303" are Super Beetles. Hope that
explains it.
