hello 1302 friends,

I have a red 1302 1600 cc german engine, bought here in the Philippines by my father (brand-new) way back in 1972.  The constant problem since time immemorial is the steering.  When the speed hits 50 kph, it starts to vibrate so hard, but disappears once it hits 60 kmh.  We've tried to tinker with and replace the bushings, tire rod ends, etc., steering damper, but to no avail.  I heard this is the most common and nagging problem with Mcpherson strut-equipped VWs.

But I dont believe the Germans dont have the cure for this very basic problem.  Do you have suggestions on how to solve this irritating problem?

This is a common problem with 1302 cars. I suggest that you make certain the wheels are perfectly balanced before you do anything major as Colin suggests. I...
