I agree either are two options, the T4 or rebuild the 1600 into an 1834. Maybe incorrectly, but I consider that the T4 is built for the larger engine sizes and thus more reliable. And while I want speed (thus power) I want to know that it will run 90% of top revs until the tank full of petrol disappears. And I want that tank after tank. Remember the 1,000 mile trips mentioned previously.
I am very interested in what you (and anyone else out there) has to say.
My parameters are: power with reliability, easy to fix if it goes wrong on some damn mountain side in France or Spain, no body mods, good ground clearance. Price is not too much of an issue.

Just curious, but why not build a great beetle motor instead of a T4 two litre. Seems to be more ecomical to make a rippin' 1835 than to mess about with a t4 engine.
