By taking on the role of a researcher, undertaking a spoof civil engineering 'project', the artist attempts to rebuild, in model form, a stretch of railway line, as seen from a window in Southall, West London during the 1980's. Speculating as to what lies outside of this field of vision, there is the suggestion of a 'theoretical' terminal station at the other end of the line, as imagined by a young railway enthusiast. But how are the two to be connected today? A visit is made to a model railway fair to seek expert advice. Prototypes is concerned with the interconnection of architecture, memory, location, travel, the passage of time, and the process of aging. Robin Deacon is a performer, writer and video artist. His work has been shown nationally and internationally since the early 90's. His work is characterized by a humorous and often satirical, approach to his subject matter. Robin Deacon is an Artsadmin Associate Artist E.2 ANNE BEAN - AUTOBITUARY Matt's Gallery, 42-44 Copperfield Road, London, E3 4RR 020 8983 1771 www.mattsgallery.org 15 March - 7 May Wed - Sun 12 - 6pm Autobituary is a dynamic sculptural installation that binds filmed performance works inside, around and behind reclaimed furniture props. The exhibition is a self-reflective look at Bean's past practice, a practice that spans decades of performance, sculpture, drawing, text and sound and is a celebration of her work from 1969-1974. Hidden within Autobituary is Shadow Deeds a restaging of her previous performance work; forgotten actions and reactions of half remembered performances that stand as a delicate account of Bean's history but also as a visually striking piece of live art. A publication with essays by Guy Brett, Sally O'Reilly and Miria Swain accompanies the exhibition. Anne Bean is an Artsadmin Artist. The evening will be compered by Marisa Carnesky. E.4 The JESUS Guy 30th March - 16th April, 2006 (Thur-Sun at 8pm) at Camden People's Theatre The Jesus Guy is a trip through the collective grid of unconscious desires which lead and mislead us to look to Someone in charge to ask for the name of our own nameless experience. Five performers create a new show each night, improvising with prewritten and cut-up text, using scores, ideas and objects accumulated during rehearsals and performances. An artist throws in new objects she creates during the show. No one has a space to call their own. In a completely dark room a jive is playing and someone, somewhere, is dancing. You will be led into the space, given a camera, a flash and seven minutes with which to find and glimpse them. Through wild and playful riffs on popular dance genres These Horses explore dancing as a live event and communal ritual. Dancing to mark the occasion, to take possession of a spot of land, to declare love, or war, or make it rain, or to make the party a good one or reach out to somebody in the dark and make something happen. www.thesehorses.com E.9 SummerBranch 4 March - 30 April 2006 A new commission by Igloo that explores movement and stillness in nature. Using camouflage, a person or a computer character can blend into a 'natural' environment captured and treated through the moving image. This installation uses the tools of the military- entertainment complex to question what is truth and artifice in our attempts to reproduce nature. Igloo not only investigate the role of the 'real' in virtual environments but also that of the reproduction of nature in the history of art and particularly landscape work. Artsway Gallery, Station Road, Sway, Hampshire SO41 6BA http://www.igloo.org.uk E.10 AFTER ART SCHOOL London Gallery West University of Westminster Northwick Park HA1 3TP April 7 ^ May 21 2006 Summer 2006 will see the tenth cohort of students graduate from the BA (Hons) Mixed Media Fine Art course at the University of Westminster's Harrow campus. The exhibition and publication After Art School will celebrate this anniversary, and also investigate the subsequent career paths of some of the 300+ alumni. Ten projects by thirteen artists illustrate the wide variety of creative activity that art students go on to get involved with. Many opt for further study at Masters level, and continue to work in fine art. But there are also those who leave the art world forever, to work in television, product design, theatre, or music (also as police officers, administrators, teachers, parents and shop assistants). The cross-disciplinary emphasis of the Mixed Media Fine Art curriculum encourages a certain flexibility that makes all these routes possible. F.
