A. FUNDING/COMMISSIONS/PLATFORMS/CALLS FOR ARTISTS
A.1) Help with global correspondence submission
A correspondence project is being initiated in the UK and seeks to go
global with your help. Volunteers around the world are needed to put up an
advert in various locations and places where people may spot it, such as a
lamp post or bus stop. The advert will ask a passer-by to form a dialogue
with me which will last for one year.

You will be part of a mass global project which will make the concept of
connectivity a more physically travelled and anticipated past time other
than succumbing to electronic formats.

If you or anyone you know in another country that might be interested in
collaborating and putting this advert out please email me on
global.correspondence@...
You just need to post me a photo of it up in your chosen location.

2+3 October 2009

For information: www.greenroomarts.org/emergency
Deadline Friday 7 August, 6pm

It's that time again and emergency09 is calling for proposals.

emergency08 featured everything from a human recycling bin to a golden
handshake; a Yeti to a whittler;and saw some 42 pieces in a day and a half
filling greenroom. To participate in this extraordinary free marathon read
on.

Artists working in live art, contemporary performance, time-based media and
interdisciplinary arts are invited to submit proposals of short pieces of
work, works in progress or extracts of longer works.

Proposals should be for pieces with some live presence, 20 minutes maximum
for show-type work, technically simple and adaptable to quick turnarounds.
Intervention-based works in and around greenroom are also strongly
encouraged.

Priorities are for live art/contemporary performance work by North West
based artists. Proposals from non-North West based artists are also
welcomed.

A.5) Exhibition Opportunity- London 'Subversive Correspondence'
The Gallery at Willesden Green, LONDON. 19th August- 2nd September 2009

Call out for artists whose works explore the idea of connectivity,
correspondence and/or dialogue. Work that perhaps subvert the usual
electronic and digital methods of communication or question why dialogue is
important? This interpretation could be as simple as a ‘message in a
bottle’, dialogue systems or in the likes of James Lee Byers, ornate,
decorative and detailed sculptural letters. It could encounter political
statements or disperse cultural observations; correspondence that is not
immediate but perhaps depend on the contingencies of travel.

Already showcased at Broadwalk Arts, Bristol, the exhibition invites artists
to tour onto London. Gallery owners are welcome to express their interest in
hosting this show at their venue.

Send 4 jpeg images and a short text of 100 words to alidiana@...
Selected artists will pay an admin fee of ₤10.00.

Deadline- Sunday 26th July 2009.

Thursday eve £15

Multiple Venues in Liverpool

Working individually and in small groups, we will make several images each
day, either quickly with reckless abandon or slowly with careful
consideration. The frame of our creation process will vary greatly, and we
will refer continuously to these questions: What distinct components does an
image have? Which are central and which act in a more supportive manner?
Where are the boundaries of an image; when does it begin, end? What are the
differences between an image and a larger scenic entity? In addition to
studio work, we will bring our research into different interior locations
and outdoor settings around the city, exploring how unique environments
reinvigorate existing work and provide stimulating containers for original
creations.

talk by Theo Jansen at St Marys Church

£5, box office 01743 281 281

Since 1990, Dutch artist Theo Jansen has been developing a series of
mechanical creature-like skeletal devices he has named strandbeest (Dutch -
“beach animal”). For nearly twenty years he has applied a fascinating mix of
Darwinian evolution and engineering to invest the machines with
sophisticated animal-like abilities, including complex articulation enabling
them to walk and sensory mechanisms allowing them to respond to aspects of
their environment.

Jansen's latest strandbeest, the 12 metre long Animaris Umerus - one of the
biggest yet, has been constructed especially for this event where it forms a
central part of Shift Time – A Festival of Ideas, celebrating the
bicentenary of the birth of Charles Darwin in the town of his birth.

E.4) Gorgeous big room in Brockley, SE4 £390pcm
Lovely, big, light room in Crofton Park/ Brockley.

This is a lovely, vibrant area with some great bars and a local art
festival, which I have come to think of as my home. Rent is just £390pcm
excl. As a veteran of the London house-share circus I can genuinely say that
this is the nicest share I’ve been in - The house is in a reasonable state,
the room is cheap and lovely and the housemates are all both friendly and
sane. They are; 1 guy and 2 girls aged 24 - 32. An artist, music publishing
assistant and teacher. (And a cat) It’s a 6 month contract from 23 July, but
they would prefer someone who might want to stay longer. The house has a
garden, kitchen-diner and lounge. £415 deposit. Any questions, please call
Jake 07766202731 or Silvia 07905982340.
