The Noise Ensemble
This Modern- Classical Quintet consists of Viola, Flute, Clarinet, Piano and Guitar. Set up to perform works by up and coming Composers as well as established artists such as Takemitsu and Reich. The members all studied or are studying at the R.W.C.M.D, and have recieved favourable reviews for their sensitive approach, and versatility. The relatively unusual combination of instruments creates some unique textures, and the pieces specially commissioned for the group take advantage of this line up.
Dan Haines
Dan is better known under his recording name of Stereo Minus One, and in his capacity as 'Da Boss' of Machine Records. This set sees Dan step out from his usual setting to present a conceptual performance piece about sound/noise and processing, involving live looping and digital mangling, without time signatures or structures except those thrown up by the sound itself. A recording is made as samples are randomly looped and spliced together; then the same process is applied to the recording itself, and the same process is applied to that recording, and so on. Not to be Missed!!!
The Quarter takes place every three months and provides a platform
for new experimental music and cross -disciplinary artists. The
night features a diverse mix of local and national acts. The
Programme is broad ranging; featuring free improvisation,
electronica, sonic art, time based art, film, animation, live dj's
and contempory composition. The aim of the night is to promote
individuals and groups working in disciplines that are under-
represented,or beyond the mainstream
