
You need them slightly oversized, about 45 x 45.
You could use a 40 x 40 with a 2pence with 1,2 or 3 figures on it, but you need to have the Mounted commander and another figure based on the base, so he cannot be a 0.
Perhaps the best way would be to have a 1p sabot on a corner with a number of white stones on it that indicate the value, then it is numerically obvious and the sabot is kept to a minimum, along with the figure painting!
