Subject: [ARAZPA Hort.] Sydney Aquarium
Hi There,
Can any one help Chris Mc Donald? He's after suggestions of plant species
that will survive and thrive in the exhibits he describes below. The
exhibits will be located in Sydney, as part of an Australian themed addition
to the Sydney Aquarium.
Please send your suggestions for all or part of this request to me.
Cheers,
Richard

Sorry I can't be more specific at this stage as this is a work in
progress. We will also have a nocturnal display with various small
gliders, possums and marsupial mice.A reptile section.
The displays will be viewed through glass- The public being in air
conditioned comfort and the animals and plants open to the elements. We would
like to make the native plants a focal point as well by graphically
illustrating their importance to the animals and environment. We hope to
display iconic and obvious plants such as grass trees, boabs, some
eucalypts, grevillias etc. We are thinking of protecting the larger trees
with tough "artificial bark" .We know it will be difficult and a big ask to
protect some of these natives but by perhaps adding some protection such as
artificial bark and possibly products such as "poss off" and growing
unpalitable plants it may help- in the end we may just continually replace
damaged trees and plants, which we are happy to do if need be .The exhibits
will be open to the public until 10pm with subdued light so visitors will
see the "nocturnal life".If you need any other info that may help please let
me know and I'll do my best.
regards Chris.
