Hi Rob,
Our Marketing Dept just had a meeting with Pike Family Nurseries, a large independent garden center in Atlanta. We buy product from them often, but no formal "partnership" as of yet. I have made the suggestion to some local growers to showcase new varieties, but no bites. I think it would strengthen the relationship between zoos and Horticulture to the guest.
We work closely with local Cooperative Extension offices (teaching programs, sharing resources, etc), but again we have no formal or advertised partnership.
Because we don't have a botanical garden "status", most guests do not think of the zoo as a destination for botanical collections. We are trying to change that by offering more signage about our plant collections, public programs, newsletter articles, and e-mails to the staff about what's going on in the landscape.
Hope this helps some, sounds like a great article! Have a great holiday!
