I just spoke with Tran and, like the messages before, I am glad to say he is
fine, he seems in good spirits but they are coping. I asked him how AZH could
help and he said help will definitely be needed but please wait until they ask
for it. At this point, due to their limited resources, they can not accommodate
any people showing up to help. They do not have water, sewer, or electricity.
The time will come when things get stabilized as far as infrastructure and
security that they may ask for assistance. It may very well be in the form of
physically going there and helping. So for the time being they are doing what
needs to be done.
There is not tree in the park that has not been affected (most of the live oaks
are standing but have been beat up) and several greenhouses have been destroyed.
His house is dry and unaffected.
He may, and it's a big maybe, show up in Chicago at the conference and "yell at
everybody". If not there he intends to come to Seattle for the 2006 conference.
So he is asking everyone to hang tight for the time being and wait for word from
them. He sends his best to all and appreciates the well wishes and kind
thoughts.
