Celebrating Plants and the Planet:
The June focus at the News page of www.zooplantman.com is on pollinators and the incredible survival strategies of invasive weeds.
The first item highlights a common, innocuous looking weed that may be killing the northeast forests. "Out-competing" takes on new meaning!
Since I read this report I have not been able to walk the dog without yanking weeds from the trail-side. It is a problem from VA to KS to Canada.
(Next month I'll post an article about another insidious alien found farther West. I like to keep things balanced.)
Other stories look at the effects of pollinator-loss in different habitats, an incredible symbiotic relationship between cycads and their weevil pollinators. Also, American Chestnuts survive!
Many stories from the past few months are still active.
Please take a look at www.zooplantman.com News page.
If a link doesn't open, it may be stopped by your pop-up blocker.
Please share these stories with associates, staff, docents and - most importantly - visitors!
