Celebrating Plants and the Planet:
This month's focus at the News page of www.zooplantman.com is again on pollination and the incredible survival strategies of invasive weeds.
The first story is about sexual competition among plants and "lifestyle choices." I'll say no more about it.
As I promised last month, another story unravels how an introduced weed in the Western U.S. states murders the competition. These stories on successful invasive weeds' strategies are helpful, I think, to our understanding of what makes an introduced species invasive.
On a more positive note:
a report from the 2004 tsunami on how mangroves saved villages;
while the discovery of a pre-Columbian forest in the U.S. south makes me want to plan a road trip! MAKE SURE you watch the video! It's astoundingly beautiful.
