RE: [AZH] Lorikeet Aviary Plantings

Hi Everybody,
We have had good success growing a range of plants with several parrot species, including Macaws, Conures, Budgies and  other Aust parrots. We have avoided using woody plants and rely on soft and herbaceous species to colonise the exhibits. Height is provided by perches and climbers are encouraged to grow up into these branches. The addition of browse and moving perches around the aviaries helps prevent graze lines from appearing. We have piled light branches over some plants, allowing the plants to grow while the branches offered some protection. We lost many plants to feet and having our husbandry colleagues on side was essential.
Some exhibits have been planted 3-4 times over a 3 year period, but we are now starting to have some results.
If more info is required contact me directly.

Cheers,

Subject: [AZH] Lorikeet Aviary Plantings

Does anyone know of any type of plants that Lorikeet parrots will
leave alone?  Perferably plants hardy to zones 5-6.  Quit
laughing..........wishful, hopeful thinking!
