I have it listed as 'toxic' in a publication,,,'Poisonous Plants' printed by Arnoldia in 1974.
(actually purchased this at Longwood Garden's at the very first conference with Chuck,,, just a little trivia to share. These were the 'good-old-days' and prior to the high maintenance structure organization it is today.
I think our accumulated assets then were $100.00, no news letter, no conservation grants or auctions. AZA, the keepers and vets had no idea what we were doing. Most zoo 'grounds departments' meant we were the ones that kept the property mowed and litter free. 31 zoo staff attended,,, I think that's the correct number,,,from around the country and two from out of country.
Mount St. Helen's had erupted about one year prior and one of the attendees brought each of us a sample. We had a great time networking and sharing our experiences of trials and tribulations at our institutions.
Sugar Loaf was a great facility to hold the 1st 'get-together' because we were remote and stayed together. The chef had exciting meals each day and in the evening, we opened the bar and ,,,, left the tab for Chuck.
Because of Chuck, we were welcomed with opened arms everywhere we went and visited. The Philly' Zoo, Longwood Gardens, and private estate gardens,,, to mention a few.
That was 26 years ago this month. For those of you that were there and still attend the annual conferences,,, my hat is off to you. Great job,, (Virginia Wall and Chuck)!! For the few that are still in the zoo world but have taken on other ventures with your institution,, Kudu's to you as well. I happen to be with a pediatric hospital now but still keep in touch with the AZH when I can.
For all other members,,, new and tenured,,, be proud of the AZH. It's come a long way and has accomplished so many great things.)
Privet,,,
Parts; leaves and berries,
Symptoms; Vomiting and diarrhea,
All species are poisonous.
Animal species may tolerate it but,,, I would not chance it.
(((Sorry,,, started to answer the question and went down memory lane)))

It appears to be toxic from what I've seen. It's listed on plannedparrothood.com as toxic.

Subject: [AZH] Privet
Does anyone know if Privet is toxic to birds?? And if it is, is it
species specific or the entire genus?? We are having some
difficulties getting a straight answer. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
