Celebrating Plants and the Planet:
Every October brings stories on the changing leaf colors. The first story on this month’s News page at www.zooplantman.com goes deeper and investigates whether fall colors benefit the plant.
Color is looked at from another angle in the next story. Researchers looking at naturally occurring hybrid orange snapdragons in Europe bring Darwinian evolutionary theory into question.
These two stories made me think of how human emotions and ideas get all tied up with the plants around us. So the next three stories consider the possible disappearance of landscapes with human cultural importance: the once every twelve-year flowering of Kurinji in India, Florida’s coastal palms, and America’s live oaks. When we destroy our “signature landscapes” what will be the effects on our cultures?
Almost two dozen News stories from past months remain active on the page. Please visit www.zooplantman.com News page.
