Zoo Botanical News for November

Celebrating Plants and the Planet:

“We can’t only tell doom and gloom stories about conservation,” someone said in a meeting recently. Whew! How many times have we heard that in our planning sessions?

So for November, Zoo Botanical News at www.zooplantman.com is all positive stories.  Yes, it’s Thanksgiving month.

The first story details exciting discoveries in Papua New Guinea of previously undescribed orchid species. If that doesn’t get the Orchid Thief in you salivating, the next story has pictures of newly discovered phosphorescing fungi in Brazil. Then read about an incongruous cloud forest adapted to the desert of Oman.

“Happy talk” can’t be limited to unknown species and mysterious places – there needs to be some action!. So I present two stories about promising conservation programs: one to require developers in Australia to save endangered plants, and another detailing how different countries are making the ecological most out of the disgraceful disappearance of the Aral Sea.

Over two dozen News stories from past months remain active on the page.  Please visit www.zooplantman.com News page.

Please share these stories with associates, staff, docents and - most importantly - visitors!
