Celebrating Plants and the Planet:
Plants are pretty amazing: that’s why I do what I do! And you must agree or you would have blocked my emails a long time ago.
This month’s links (at www.zooplantman.com under NEWS) revel in the wonder that is plants:
· Why do sunflowers, cactus, etc. unfold in the amazing and mathematically perfect forms they do? (there are some terrific photos with this article);
· A rare, possibly unique marine plant in Hawaiian waters actually creates the sand (I am ready if asked to go investigate);
· A North American native plant that breaks records for speed;
· Co-evolutionary competition in our own time in Colorado (the birds are winning);
· And finally, a look at the kapok tree, native to South America and Africa?
I’d like to congratulate the Oklahoma City Zoo on the opening of “Oklahoma Trails”. A great concept. I had the chance to assist with the exhibit planning and developed enormous respect for Oklahoma in the process. Take a look at this article…and the accompanying video tour with Bert Castro: http://newsok.com/article/3025042 (the site may require registration, though)
