Our tropical conservatory doesn’t
have insect screening, and there are no problems with flies and yellow
jackets. Our problem is mosquitoes-- Asian tiger, day-biters.
They were pretty bad for a while, til we
started treating all standing water and such things as tank bromeliads with
granular Bs (Vectolex). So be forewarned, maybe insect screening would
have saved us a lot of time and trouble.

Subject: [AZH] rainforest
Building our
rainforest and this question came up: We are have operable panels on the roof
to ventilate like on a greenhouse. There will be netting on the inside of these
to contain the birds on the inside and exclude the birds on the outside. I was
asked if this needs to be an insect exclusion mesh also. Has anyone had
experience with this? I have visions of every homeless housefly and yellow
jacket coming in to spend the winter. Thoughts? - steve
