Hi, I retired through ill health in '93, after only 10 years 'in the job'. I may now be considered a 'silver surfer' but I retain enough memory to remember trying to clean an ambulance, for my 12 hr day shift, after a night shift duty crew had crawled off for sleep (12 hrs isn't a long time when it takes up to an hour to get home!) - mate not yet in, control screaming they were holding calls, not enough cleaning tools - you were left with a cold water source and a bucket on many occasions.

The idea of using cleaning crews sounds good but this needs to be made 'law' for all. A bucket of water, a mop and some smellies is not the answer - but, in my opinion, its all most will get!

Hello

I'm a freelance journalist investigating recent changes to the ambulance
service and the impact they are having on patient care for a national
newspaper.

I've got a couple of reasonably interesting case studies of
patients/relatives who feel they have been let down recently by having to
wait too long for ambulances but who also feel the ambulance staff
themselves were very professional and good at their jobs – but they were
just under too much pressure.....

I'm wondering if you or any of your colleagues would be willing to talk to
a journalist about service changes and the impact they are having on
patients..? You would not need to be identified as I wouldn't want anyone
to risk losing their job...

In addition – if you know any patients/relatives who you think have a
powerful story to tell then please forward them my contact details below.

Many thanks for your help, Adele
