Hello all. Could anyone tell me the actual width of the planking on a
thames barge hull? It is very difficult to tell from a photograph.

Ifitted a Tony Williams keel to my barge, this is GRP.A re=enforcement bar runs along the bottom of the hull and a location tube passes through this.
I have just measured the location of this and it is 5" behind the mast, this marks the CG of the bulb which on my barge weighs in at 9lbs.

Hi all, Jeff was taken ill with severe breathing dificulties on
Wednesday evening. He is a little better tonight (Thursday). He's on
oxygen in MEU 5 at Addenbrookes Hospital. After chatting with Judy
it's my personal opinion that it's doubtful that Jeff will be well
enough for Barleyland - I hope he will be but I doubt it. He's already
chatting about getting to the Herne Bay match!!
Glad to hear that my report of the Brightlingsea Match is well
recieved.
Has anyone recieved their tickets for Barleylands yet?
Michael

Via Jimmy Lawrence. When seeing dimensions for rigging it is measured
like this:-
1a. all UK maritime measurements were in imperial i.e. ft. & in.
  b. rope was measured in circumference
  c. steel wire rope was measured in diameter.

Hello Gerry
I have been having a helluva time here. Just got back online since I
don't know when. If anyone says to you go for a wireless connection
setup tell the &^%$$£**$£ to go away!! I am now on my old PC with a
slow dial up system as my all singing all dancing PC is kaput. Well
not quite I exaggerate a bit. Now considering I get around 200
emails a day through my ordinary email address........ I have a heck
of a lot of catching up to do. I have a sneaky suspicion that I have
missed one of your emails....... can I help?
Please would you email me again but use thamesbarges@...
or if you don't get any joy try Jeff Foddering.
Michael

The 76th. Match will take place on Sat. July 15 2006. As usual the
startline will be in Lower Hope Reach below Gravesend, Kent and the
finish line in Gravesend itself.

PLEASE NOTE: if you're in the habit of following the Match on board
the
MV Princess Pocahontas she will unfortunately NOT be available this
year.

However there are 3 vessels which will be taking spectators. For their
contact details please see here:

Thanks must go to Jeff Foddering who despite bouts of ill health has
done a sterling job as Exhibition Secretary. As one of the few (sounds
very RAF'ish!!) who attend model shows, Jeff has organised tickets and
generally gone beyond what I would have expected even to the point of
telling me where to park! The position he leaves will be hard for
Richard to fill. I believe Jeff will aid whoever takes this on in any
way he can but I don't think any one will do the job as well.........
will they Dave??!!! (My money is on DW!!)

Hello Richard, I fear that my emails to you have been destroyed by an
overzealous spam fighter that I have. For some strange reason it has
entered yours and a few other friends email addresses to automatically
not accept any mail. Which means all the newsy bits and items for
the "Bitts & Bobs" have not been sent and no wonder I haven't heard
from you. As soon as I realised what has happened I tried to rectify
the problem........... guess what......... no matter what I do I can't
seem to get around it. If you can "okay" that you have read this I'll
write a piece on the SSBR for the next newsletter which I guess is by
now all but complete anyway.

Check the sloping sides in photos (o004) and (006) the second and
fourth photos in the "Maldon" album and let me know what you think.
The last 3 photos show the superb new pond along at the Hythe Quay end
of the promenade.
