Hello
Your message caught my attention.
I lead a very healthy lifestyle in response to my mood
disorders. As I live near the Downs, I walk at least
twice or three times per week and I take up regular
set of exercises before going to bed, which I realise
to be helpful in achieving optimal sleep patterns.
I also suffer from PMS 2 weeks before the Period
commences and I tend to feel drained for a week or so
after the period is over possibly due to the blood
loss and the effects of hormones. My partner can tell
exactly when the period is starting.
I have also suffered SAD pretty badly in the past few
years though I now have a very supportive partner who
understands and helps me get out more. I think this
was something I found to be the MOST useful ingredient
in tackling my Mood Disorders.
Regards,

Keeping a mood and sleep diary is something we
bipolars routinely do.
I think there are templates in the files section here
or at my other
website

Two proven techniques to ward off Seasonal Affective
Disorder are:
1) exercise every day ~ 30 minutes of profuse sweating
does wonders.
Try something aerobic like basketball, squash, etc
2) bright fluorescent lighting in winter to simulate
12 hrs of daylight
Diet also helps. Cut down on protein, eat more veg and
fruits, avoid
MSG (monosodium glutamate food enhancer)
Read the old messages at this website and you will
come across loads
of useful advice on lifestyle changes to make.
Bipolar is a lifelong illness. It is not CURED or
CONQUERED but
MANAGED. Changes in lifestyle, diet etc usually does
the trick. Also,
have a look at http://www.truehope.com for a mineral
and vitamin
supplement that has been effective for me and loads of
other bipolars.
Basically, this food supplement provides the trace
elements to help us
bipolars make the necessary neuro-transmitters in the
correct amounts,
the premise being bipolars somehow have an imbalance
of these
transmitters because our bodies don't or are unable to
make them in
the necessary proportions for some reason or another.
warm regards
