Re: [BAD_MD] Bipolar & Moving From US to UK (Hampshire). Q about Meds!

Hi
My name is Brian.
I am 54 i live with my wife lola she is 30 and we live
in hampshire near Southampton.
My wife was diagnosed BP 2 years ago. At first we were
not happy with the treatment, but it does seem a
little better, the only drugs that we were ofered was
Hyperidol and sodium valporate, with rispiradin if
Lola thought she needed a sedative.
At this time lola is rather depressed and losted all
her sex drive.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Good luck when you come to England.

Brian

I'm 40, single, female & bipolar (dx'd in 2001). I
live in Virginia
(in the States) now, but January '06, after a work
permit pending is
processed & hopefully approved, I'm moving to start a
new career and to
live in Hampshire with a very good friend (probably
much more, but
proximity precludes presumption). The move is 'on'
enough that today I
shipped all my photographs to him via the 'slow boat'.

So now comes the scary part. How will I manage my BP
disorder
transferring from US healthcare where my private
insurance affords me
the luxury of taking Abilify (aripiprazole) and
Lexapro (escitalopram
oxalate)?? Does anyone know if these drugs are in
use in the UK?
Abilify is kind of expensive, I think. Anyone know if
National Health
will support my continued use of these meds until
circumstances allow
private insurance? It has taken me 4 years to find a
combination that
both works, and has me able to not only NOT GAIN
weight, but also
slowly lose it. And I'm frightened of a transition
period again,
especially during a new relationship!

Other suggestions? I hope this group will be helpful
in what faces me
in coming weeks and months. Thanks! - Krin
