The best thing any bipolar not on medication can do, in my experience,
is to go on a vegetarian diet and do the water therapy once a day,
first thing when you wake up. I have written about water therapy in
one of my earlier posts ~ you can go to the archives to read it.
Also avoid foods and food additives with sodium in it like sodium
chloride (common salt), monosodium glutamate (MSG), sodium benzoate
and sodium nitrate (food preservatives).
Preserved meats such as salami, sausages and corn beef have sodium
nitrate in it.
The reason why we should avoid these high sodium foods is due to the
way nerve activity works in our brain. It is based on sodium and
potassium and when they are out of balance, the nerve activity goes a
bit haywire and hence the mood swings. Usually, this imbalance is
caused by too much sodium due to the way our food has been processed.
I also eat a lot of potassium-rich food like aubergines and tomatoes
to help balance it up.
There is a product called True Hope that has worked well for me, but
it is somewhat expensive. It is a supplement of rare minerals and
trace elements that act as catalysts for our brain to produce the
right balance of brain chemistry. More info about it can be found at
www.truehope.com
Other than that, I have found listening to the right sort of music
helps as well as meditation. Any calming, stress-reducing
visualization is of help.
I have to dash off now but hope to write more tomorrow.
Take care
