I just got home from a lovely mini ( or is it Micro) meet with
Geraldine/Patworkperson. She is not an axe murderer, but brought with
her some Jelly Babies to decapitate and a lovely bar of Green & Blacks
which I was given to bring home. We chatted away for over 2 hours and
both look forward to meeting again.
The only slight downer on the evening is the owners of the pub told me
off. They said they had given me a load of decent books and I had
only bought crap books back! They have put new shelves in, which is
good, but moaned about the quality of books that had been left there
and how they wanted me to bring decent books in.
I felt quite embarassed and really feel like telling them to get lost
- I am not a bloody library! I have taken in books and left loads
behind at all the meets (3) I have had there, caffcaff left some nice
ones - nothing wrong with the quality from what I can see. The
request is for Thrillers and for familiar authors. Now do I put out
an appeal at the convention for decent books for them - or leave them
to it? I had thought the owner liked the idea of her books travelling
and that was why she gave me a bag of books(1 bag not loads!) but
obviously I misunderstood - she wants a free library of good books in
her pub so the shelves look good - grrraumph.
Luckily Geraldine brought some thrillers to leave behind - I then felt
really awkward about the books I had brought to leave there on the
shelf, as are they what they consider good, or had I taken a bag full
of crap again? Who knows, as we know here a book one person hates
another person might love. I really don;t feel like stocking that
obcz anymore now I know how fussy the owners are.

As people are having trouble coming on different days - I think I will
go to the pub for the meet this week on Wednesday 15th June, and see
how many turn up! Then is enough people show an interest I can go
again next week too.
I am going to create a poll in the local meet up group for people to
RSVP to so I get an idea of numbers. The meet will be 8pm at the Rose
and Crown Pub, Park Lane, Hartwell, Northants.
Let me know if you need directions.

Horror of horros - I have a clash with the meet that night.
I have been asked to go to a commitee meeting for the choir I am in.
Would you folks be agreeable to a one week delay and move the meet to
23rd June? If not then I don;t need to be there for a meet to happen
- or you keen people could meet two weeks running!
Any who were intendig to come on the 16th please reply to this note
and let me know if the 23rd instead would be ok. If not I could scive
off but I would feel terribly guilty!
Also on another note - if anybody would like to hear my choir sing, we
do a mix of modern stuff, Abba, Rythm of Life, a little religious, Ave
Maria, Unchained Melody and I will be doing a duet of I know him so
well with my Mum! We are a 4 part choral choir but not too serious
and we are doing a concert in Hartwell Church - near the Rose and
Crown OBCZ pub, on the evening of 9th July. Any bookcrossers welcome
although I will not be weraing my bc T-shirt for a change!

Welcome to the 4 new members waiting for approval, and sorry for the
delay- I have just returned from a weeks holiday on the Essex coast (5
Books Read, 2 Released, 0 Caught !)
Just in case I am without internet access again - would anyone like to
volunteer to join me as a moderator for this group? We are still
quite small so all it involves is approving new members, reading
messages to make sure content is suitable and to pervent spammers, and
just keeping a general eye on things. Please let me know if you can
help.

has a bookcrossing box in Brackley at 1pm tomorrow, for some furtive
book trading!
If any other book lovers would like to come and find us please do.
The shop is Katharine House Hospice Shop, Banbury Road, Brackley - we
will be the ones looking at the books! If you want to know more about

I have just got in from a lovely eveing in the company of caffcaff and
a new bookcrosser who joined this month called kikatinkan who is a
very freindly Irishman - who would love to come to the convention -
but he is giving his daughter away that day!
I was quite embarassed that caffcaff came such a long way and met so
few crossers - but we had such a lovely time! Also the owners of the
pub are really keen on the OBCZ and asked for more bookmarks, and
people have started leaving books there which they are putting to one
side to give me to register. - my Husband groaned when I told him this
- like I need more books in the house!
We tried to convert caffcaff to Terry Pratchett, and I talked up
Jasper Fforde (Just for you Molyneux!) , except if we convert her she
gets about 30 books to add to mount toobiered. kikatinkan will
probably drop by to say hi, so be nice - as always!
I did leave to walk home thought not realsing caffcaff was waiting in
the carpark to give me a lift home! lol - well - I was the only one
drinking and 2 smirnoff ices and I am a bit woozy - that weebly can
wobble sometimes!

she would have loved to play with the Purple Pixie Puppies.
Looking forward to making the next one.

I just got home from our lovely meet up today - we had in attendance
Mastulela, Purple-pixie with boys and dogs, and Gembear - a
misplaces Aussie with her hubby.
We had a chat, a walk, then a drink and ice-cream - and also had
another book-crosser convert come and have a quick look at our
books. The sun was shining and it was a lovely day.
Also thanks to you for taking a few of my books away to wild release!
I have a bookbox for caffcaff to collect on Thursday from
Purplepixie too - please don't let me forget it!!!

The boss says that I can come to the meeting on Sunday as we'll be in MK for my appointment with the bone cruncher at 1 p.m.. He says he knows where the forest is but not the cafe so is there a specific direction to it? Do I need to bring anything with me? How will I recognise you? All these questions and more!
I'll be easy to spot with a reluctant male in tow, ha! I'm afraid he's not a book lover but does enjoy snippets I read out to him such as the Harley engine guff from Kathy Reichs, Deadly Decision or Anthony Worrall Thompson's description of his bad luck with cars from Raw, his autobiography.
Looking forward to meeting you all,

This year's special meetup is being held in Birmingham from 1st the
the 3rd of July.
You can attend for one, two, or all, of the days.
Saturday is the day of the main get-together, with a quiz, a raffle,
and plenty of eating, drinking, chatting and swapping of books! (goes
without saying really, doesn't it?)
There is also some talk about Cranium, but I don't think that is
compulsory :)
The author Kate Harrison will be attending and will be running a small
workshop for budding writers.
Last year was most enjoyable and over 100 people have already signed
up to go this year.
It's not too late to register and this is an excellent way of meeting
other like-minded people from the UK and beyond.
Details, including a link to registration form request, can be found

Meet-Up seems to have arranged a meet up for 19th May whether I want one or not!
So depsite already arranging a meet for the Sunday before, I will be
wandering down to the pub on Thursday 19th to meet Kamathe for the 2nd
month running - we had such a lovely time last month
So here are the details:-

Really sorry I can't make that one. Mainly because public transport and
Sundays just don't mix!
Perhaps it's just as well because finances are a bit dickey this month
and I might have been tempted to say "sod it!" and come anyway, which
would have been BAD!

Please can you spread the news among local bookcrossers about a new
OBCZ in Brackley, near Towcester. Below are all the details taken
from the shelf of http://www.bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf/idlewriter
who would like to share the news of this bookcrossing zone.
Copied from BC profile : I'm a volunteer helper at the Katharine
House Hospice Shop, Banbury Road, Brackley. We have fantastic book
bargains there - fiction, non-fiction and children's - but it's
disappointing that so few people come into the shop to find them.
I'm experimenting with setting up a Bookcrossing Zone in the shop -
do come and have a look, and also see the other wonderful books in
stock. Booker winners, reading-group favourites, chick-lit,
classics, biographies, TV tie-ins, cookery books, sport, reference
books, esoteric oddities - we've got the lot. Besides supporting a
good cause, and supplying yourself with reading, charity shops are a
great way of acquiring books for 50p or £1, so that you don't mind
releasing them "into the wild" when you've read them.
Thank you
Weebly
As my husband is working for the next two weekends - I though I had
better arrange another forest meet-up to keep me and the children
busy while he earns the pennies.
I have chosen Sunday 15th May as the date. I plan to meet at 2pm
outside the forest cafe for a walk followed by cups of tea and/or
ice creams - depending on the weather.
There is a new children's play area which is more suitable for older
children as well as little ones too. Also you can walk dogs too.
Please reply here if you can come so I can gather numbers. I hope
this doesn't clash with other meets, I have checked the BCUK diary
and it doesn't seem to.
There were just four of us but we swopped a couple of books - talked
about anything and everything and were good little bookcrossers and
left before 10pm!
The great news though is that the pub welcome bookcrossers and let
me leave a load of books behind - and would like to be an official
bookcrossing zone. So if anyone is passing Hartwell pop in and take
a book, and leave one too if you like!
The address is Rose and Crown pub, 3 Park Road, Hartwell,
Northamptonshire.
If you are visiting and want to stop for a drinkie just let me know -
I only live down the road!
I have not set the date for the next meet yet. Could you post here
with feedback as to times and days that you would be available in
May? Do I stick to a Thursday or would a day time meet at the
weekend at the forest be best for our next meet?
Suugestions please.
I have added a new database in the files section for people to fill
out their bc name and their meet preferences if you could come and
fill it out that would be great. Thanks
Weebly
Thursday 21st April
Mainly set up to discuss new charges to Meet-Up site and to let
peopl
know about this new group as an alternative to manage the meets.
To be held 8pm.
At the Rose and Crown pub, 3 Park Road, Hartwell, Northamptonshire.
This is the first time I have hosted a meet here - so lets see if we
like it!
If you are here you must be interested in meeting other
bookcrossers.
If you join the group you will find out about future planned meets.
This is an experiment using this groups to arrange meet-ups so
please be patient and let me know if you have any ideas for
improvments or meet locations.
