thank you, this is an excellent topic of conversation. i've been
aware of the 'standby' power problem for years having been both on and
off grid here in the US. at this time i am on solar pv with grid
backup and have been so for 11 years in rural arkansas. i have all my
'standby' equipment on power strips or UPS's (uninterruptable power
supplys) which i switch off when not in use. over the years i've made
decisions on the purchase of new equipment that maintains its memory.
my satellite television is big dish so theres not so much problem
with the system being offgrid for long periods of time. i also unplug
the wall-warts when not in use charging the cell phone etc. its all a
matter of adjusting ones lifestyle in respect for our planet.
glad i found this site. thanks!
