Guys,

Complete novice here looking for advice.

2 main bed + 2 attic bed house. I'm looking to run it completely by
wind. At the moment the cooker and fridge are run via gas, the
heating / hot water via solid fuel and the lights / hot water etc via
a diesel generator.

I would like to consider one of a number of options depending on cost.

Ideally I'd like to keep the heating via solid fuel (rayburn) and
have everything else run by wind power. I have no intention of having
a washing machine or dishwasher etc but would like to install a
freezer, and possibly revert the cooker and fridge from gas to wind
electricity as well.

I think wind would be far better than solar as it's in the Scottish
highlands and we don't get too much sun up here but we do get our
share of wind. The house is situated in a valley.
While I will almost always run the hot water / heating from the
rayburn I would like the opportunity to switch on hot water only via
an electrical heater (baths in summer etc).

I have absolutely no idea at all on any of this and have literally
just embarked on this project today. Any help would be greatly
appreciated, especially given the details above what kva (or kw)
capacity I would require, size of turbine, batteries for storage of
electricity etc etc. As I say, any info would be helpful.

Many thanks.

I don't know if the yahoo system sends updates on messages to e mail
addresses - if not my e mail address is: m4fmg@...

Hi again, Perhaps the best thing is to run the lights off the wind power to start with, then move on to other things as you add to the system. Diesel generator...
