I have not been a great fan of modern technology in later years, but
in this case I was pretty chuffed I had a camera phone on me.
Towards the POlice Station side of the club house my car had been
parked from 8:30 - 11:30 while i had done my stint as OOD last
Wednesday. On returning to my car I was utterly amazed to see an
abandoned car had hit my pride and joy. Out came my camera phone and
I clicked away taking four photos. The Commodore John N., Bill S.
And Ron K. came to my assistance. I walked back to the swimming pool
to ask there if they had a public address or some way of asking the
bathers if it was their car that had hit mine. The Lifeguard came
out to see what it was that I was talking about and went back after
helping to push back the car while John went to find a brick to
place as a chock under one of the front wheels. A while later a
bather came out with car keys and protested his innocence. After
describing what happened he unlocked his car and put on the
handbrake - which was the cause of his car rolling down the gradient
into my car. We exchanged numbers. I was late getting home and my
wife needed to get to work using the car. Next morning having taken
the car to the dealership and getting a very reasonable price I
phone the owner of the car. His wife answered the phone and said "my
husbands car has been parked all day with the handbrake on". I
said " I have photos that prove otherwise". With that the phone went
down and I was left absolutely astonished!! Well if they are going
about it like that then I'll have to report it as a "Road Traffic
Collision" and involve the Police. So....... now the insurance
people are involved. He'll loose his no claims discount and most
likely the first £100 he'll have to pay etc..... all for a £52.64p
part. Is it not best to be honest and admit that the fault was
theirs......... oh well thank goodness for modern technology and
capturing that naughty little handbrake. See album.
