Description

A group predominantly for polytheists who live in Britain, have lived in Britain or have a connection with current British pagan culture. The core community are hard polytheists, who regard gods as having individual personalities (rather than being archetypes or aspects of God/gods or Divinity).

Most list members tend to follow reconstructionist pagan religions (Germanic, Celtic, Roman, Hellenic, Kemetic etc). Others have relationships with gods associated with a number of pantheons without following one in particular.

Open-minded British monotheists, atheists or agnostics who are interested in learning about polytheism, debating theology or engaging in interfaith discussions are free to join. Proselytising will not be tolerated.

Although this community welcomes hard polytheists from other parts of the world, they are expected to respect the British nature of this list. This is not merely a matter of the cultural assumptions, but also of attitude and sense of humour, which differ from those of other nationalities and can be too plain spoken for some.

The group welcomes robust, intelligent discussion about polytheism. The religious culture is that of people who regard the differences between personal spiritual insight and contemporanous sources of less importance than what they tell us and how we choose to use that. The list rules indicate what might (or might not) be permitted by the moderators and we suggest all new members read them.

Any member who does not acclimatise to the culture of the list within four weeks may be unsubscribed at the list owners' discretion. We have encountered problems in the past with people who seem more intent on stroking their egos or trolling for trouble than contributing to lively polytheist discussion. Please don't join because you are emotionally attached to a belief system and/or set of values and wish to proselytise it to the rest of the group. Go elsewhere. We are not that easily led!
