Teens quizzed on crime fears
07 February 2007
TEENAGERS are being asked to tell officers where and why they most fear crime.
Met bosses are carrying out an internet survey among secondary pupils to discover their key concerns.
The information is due to be used by community teams who will work to find solutions.
Head of Bromley's Safer Neighbourhood Teams Chief Inspector Marshall Kent said: "It is really important that we get a good response to the survey from young people in Bromley and that they have the opportunity to have their say and have a voice as to where and why they are caused fear and identify places they do not like to go."
Officers are working with teachers to incorporate the survey into lesson plans and posters are being put up in schools to raise publicity.
CI Kent added: "The results will help us identify places where we can work to make them safer with our partners and give us additional perspectives on Safer Transport areas and our street crime locations."
The scheme has already be piloted successfully in two schools. The online survey went live on Monday and can be used until 11pm on Sunday, February 18. It can be found at: www.met.police.uk/saferneighbhourhoods
