The following is a brief summary from Roger Taylor, who attended a recent meeting at New Scotland Yard for all London Chairs:
We met with Alan Croney from the Met police Estates Dept, who supplied the following information:
The acceleration of the rollout of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams has not been matched with the funding from the Metropolitan Police Authority.
Any new acquisitions have been paused unless contracts have been signed
For the moment if suitable properties come up they will be decided on a case by case basis
They are looking to get the safer neighbourhood teams in to the shopping areas via shops with counters
Probably two neighbouring teams will share a patrol base.
There will be one custody centre per borough
There will be one 24/7 police station per borough.
There will be a property management document produced which will cover all property within the met police area of control
This document will broadly outline what is to happen to each building.
Following on from this a discussion/engagement document will be issued and the borough commander and MPA Link member will then meet to thrash out the needs for each borough.
This will then be incorporated into general borough wide consultation and the feedback will then be returned to the property group for formulating into a briefing document to be approved by the police authority for funding
Any questions or feedback you have can you contact Amanda (details below) and we will try to answer or will consult with the relevant parties.
