Damian Heard is presented with his letter of thanks by Chief Superintendent Charles Griggs

A SUPERMARKET manager has received a personal letter of thanks for his community support from Bromley police's top cop.

Damian Heard, who manages Waitrose, in Main Road, Biggin Hill, was personally presented with the letter by Chief Superintendent Charles Griggs in recognition of the support and assistance he has provided to the Biggin Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

Mr Heard, who had previously allowed the use of the store for SNT panl meetings, volunteered to take on the role of SNT panel chair in October last year.

In addition to the main panel, Mr Heard also supports the Biggin Hill youth panel and was able to provide an an allowance for food and drink, equipment and other materials to be used by the panel and encourage youths to continue attending it.

He has also allowed the store to be used for road show events, police surgeries and even allowed his own office to be used for residents to speak confidentially to police.

Additionally, Mr Heard has provided funding for four bicycles for the team and thousands of SNT 'calling cards' which have been distributed to the community.

Further ongoing projects include sponsoring a vehicle for the SNT, buying personal attack alarms and alarm systems for the elderly and vulnerable in Biggin Hill, which the SNT will monitor and control.

Chief Superintendent Griggs said: " "It is my pleasure to thank Damian for his excellent work and for his continued support to Bromley police.

"Damian does not live in the borough but gives up his time to work with the SNT.

"It is thanks to the efforts of people like Damian, who are prepared to work with us to make a difference, that Bromley remains one of the safest boroughs to live and work in".
