On the buses: Two-week crackdown

A TWO-week crackdown on anti-social behaviour and general crime and disorder on London's buses starts today.

The operation, named Goldfinger 2 has been launched to coincide with the start of the school term and will see officers from the Met's Transport Operational Command Unit (TOCU) on buses to reassure the public.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Safer Transport Teams will also be deployed during daytime and early evenings across 20 boroughs, including Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham.

Transport for London, who are funding the initiative, will also be providing Revenue Protection Officers to carry out static and mobile inspections to check for fare evasion and ensure passengers have paid the correct fare for their journey.

TOCU Superintendent David Wildbore said: "The TOCU patrols and operations play an important role in helping the make public transport and London safer.

"Anti-social behaviour creates an intimidating atmosphere for passengers and increases the fear of crime.

"Operation Goldfinger 2 is about continuing to reduce this anti-social behaviour and increasing public safety and confidence."
