Yesterday three plainclothes police officers, two women and a young
man called at my Beckenham flat, where I live alone and without
visitors of any kind. They showed no ID but asked my neighbour my
likely whereabouts. I am embarrassed to say that she made the mistake
of telling them the likely answers, despite them behaving to all
intents and purposes exactly like criminals/bogus callers. They
pretended to leave a note thru my door, which I looked for, on my
neighbour's suggestion, but found nothing. After some phoning round,
and a process of elimination (including eliminating criminals, who
seem unlikely to think of impersonating plainclothes detectives and
employing a 2:1 women to men ratio - round here, anyway).
Today I received a phone call from a DC Lee of Bromley Police. She
repeatedly called me 'Richard,' rather than 'Mr Comaish' (which,
despite phonetic spelling, caused her much difficulty), so I asked
her her forename. She demurred, so I asked her to address me more
respectfully, which she then agreed to, and apologised (hence the
difficulty with the surname).
She says that she is going to assist me in establishing my innocence
in the case of someone who has been a long-term nuisance to me
(having obtained my mobile number), and who has now made a serious
allegation against me. But friends like this begin to appear worse
than the original enemy!
