News: BROMLEY: Sat-nav warning for drivers   Message List

Good info below, and another point worth mentioning....

If you have your Home address programmed into your SatNav, a thief may also find out where you live,

which is especially bad if you have a set of house keys in the glove compartment!

A Safe & Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year is wished to Everyone on the BromleyNWA List !

BROMLEY: Sat-nav warning for drivers

1:18pm Sunday 21st December 2008

SAT-NAVS are on a lot of Christmas lists this year but make sure yours does not become a gift for a thief by following Bromley police’s advice.

  • Disconnect your device every time you leave your car, and take the electronic route finder with you.
  • Also remove the suction mounted fitting from the windscreen as this informs thieves there might be a sat-nav hidden in the car.
  • Wipe the suction ring mark from the windscreen with a cloth because thieves look for this to indicate whether a car has a sat-nav or not.
  • Note down the serial number of the device and any other portable equipment and keep the information in a safe place in case it gets stolen.
