BROMLEY BOROUGH POLICE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH INTELLIGENCE TASKINGS

Artifice Burglary

Incidents of artifice burglary by persons posing as Water Board officials are still occurring on our borough, please disseminate again to your members the crime prevention advice provided a month ago, in particular the following:

Thames Water Utilities Limited who supply our water and are responsible for all maintenance in our borough

DO NOT COLD CALL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

In the event that essential / emergency work is to be carried out, and your water supply will be interrupted, a printed leaflet will be placed in your letterbox, detailing the works / emergency, and will include, if necessary, details of temporary water supplies such as your nearest standpipe.

Operation Recovery

Since October 2005 the Metropolitan Police have revised procedures for the recovery of lost or stolen motor vehicles found within its force boundary, this month Bromley Borough Police have become one of the five boroughs piloting the initiative with a view to expanding it across London. Whilst it is not an obligatory requirement upon the Service, it is the intention of the MPS to recover lost or stolen vehicles found in order to:

·         Enhance safe keeping of property

·         Reduce secondary crime, namely arson and theft from vehicle and

·         Improve quality of life by the early removal of abandoned vehicles from the street.

Additionally, each vehicle recovered under this scheme will undergo a forensic examination, the intention being to enhance crime detection rates.

ALL lost or stolen vehicles (except motorcycles and burnt out vehicles) which are found abandoned within our borough, will be recovered to the MPS Forensic Pound at Charlton. This will also include vehicles bearing false number plates or have been obtained by fraud.

What you need to do

If there is an abandoned vehicle in your street, (excluding burnt our vehicles and motorcycles) please report this to police 01689 891212, alternatively ring your own sector office, or report to your nearest police station.

An officer will attend if it is established that the vehicle is lost or stolen, the officer will inform the recovery team, who aim to recover all vehicles within an hour.

This is an opportunity for all of you to assist us in clearing up this type of anti social behaviour in our borough, I will keep you updated with numbers of vehicles recovered under this scheme in this newsletter.
