Subject: Safer Neighbourhood Update

Dear Penge Area Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators,

Just a quick note to say thank you for all your continuing hard work from your Safer Neighbourhood Team.

We thought we'd drop you all a line to let you know how we are getting on and to emphasis some current crime trends to be on the look out for.

At our last meeting of the Safer Neighbourhood Panel, the following priorities were voted as a priority.

  • Misuse of drugs ( using and dealing )
  • Burglary
  • Safer shopping ( High Street )
  • Setting up a youth panel

We recognise that many of those who commit acquisitive crime do so because of a drugs habit. We are working towards some proactive operations in the area targeting that trade. We find that by keeping pressure on drug dealers and their bases , that we can help limit other crime such as burglary and thefts from cars.

As far as burglary is concerned, numbers have risen in the past 3 months. Please encourage all your members to re-double their efforts at home security. A handy place for tips on home crime prevention is the Metropolitan Police Service website. The link is below.

Should any of you require a batch of some crime prevention booklets, then please reply to this e mail with your address and my team will send some round to you for distribution.

Shoplifting has thankfully decreased since Christmas period. We have found that many shops have cut back on their security staff , no doubt due to financial constraints, which only encourages shoplifting. We are stepping up our patrols on the High Street as a deterrent.

Finally, the team were grateful to be "highly commended" by the Safer Bromley Partnership for their work in the Penge & Cator area, in making Bromley safer.

I wanted to pass on this credit to yourselves, who provide us with "eyes and ears" on the ground.

Please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

Kind regards

All at Penge Safer Neighbourhood Team
