London Contact Improvisation
Contact improvisation classes and jams are held on Saturdays at the Moving East Centre for Martial Arts, Dance and Complimentary Medicine in Stoke Newington. All levels of experience are welcome and booking is not required. To attend the class please arrive at 11.15 in order to start at 11.30. The class is followed by a three-hour jam which can be attended independently of the class.
Irmela Wiemann will teach the next three classes starting this Saturday 11 March:
I am particularly interested in the journey in and out of contact, recognising space around partners to allow contact even before physical touch, exploring physical impulse and intuitive response, playing with accepting offers as well as letting them go, in short: truly dancing with the myriad of choices given at any moment in the duet.
Irmela Wiemann has been involved in exploring, performing and teaching Contact Improvisation for more than ten years. When in full time study as a violinist in Austria she discovered her love for dancing, causing her to change gear in training. Ever since she has performed and choreographed work of both disciplines in Austria, France, Germany and Holland before moving to London in 1998. She is currently teaching the form to actors and dancers at Laban Creekside, The City Lit, Tower Hamlets Life Long Learning Service and Mount View Academy
