The second annual March 2 Marfa is on its way.
And we'd like you to be a part of it.

In '06, Nina Martin facilitated 22 experienced
improvisers in experimenting and sharing using her
Ensemble Thinking as a jumping off point. The
participants were choreographers, university
professors, and performers. We know the participants
make all the difference in this specific format of
laboratory work. That's why we wanted to extend this
invitation to you.

March 2 Marfa '07 will be facilitated by Steve Paxton.
Each of the 6 days will begin with 2 1/2 hours of
Steve's "Material For The Spine."

"Begun in 1986, 'Material for the Spine' is a simple
dancing system based in sensation and evolved
self-imagery for the skeletal elements of head, spine
and pelvis. In other words, this lab will be an
exploration of the centre of the body. The material is
abstracted from Contact Improvisation, but the classes
will be more technical and meditative, with emphasis
on breathing and precise exercises, done solo.
Connections may be noticed to extant dance techniques,
and their mostly unstated use of the pelvis. 'Material
for the Spine' cannot avoid the rest of the body: so
far it has extended to the hip sockets and thighs, the
shoulder blades and arms."

After lunch, Steve will guide us in 3 hours of group
improvisation.

Friday night there will be an informal performance for
the Marfa community. We will also have time for
discussion and getting to know each other outside the
studio. Marfa is an exceptional town in West Texas.
Bring your questions, your experience, and your body,
and join us for this research and development/ dancing
retreat.

El Paso airport to Marfa)
$375 after November 30th
Housing: We will find you housing for a $15 finder�s
