Two Sunday workshops with international teachers:

The Obvious Invisible
a workshop
with Javier Cura (Argentina/Italy)
Sunday
8 July

We can imagine movement as dynamic combination of centripetal and centrifugal forces. Physically and emotionally perceiving these forces can help us re-attain a lost animal harmony, and create within us a fluid state of constant metamorphosis. We will share this experience in trios, duos and solos. Taking advantage of this underlying principle and using some elements of martial arts, tango and/or physical theatre we will enrich our Contact Improvisation dance until it transcends its given form.

Javier Cura  is a multidisciplinary artist. He has dedicated himself to the Fine Arts creating several art exhibitions of objects, sculptures and
installations. He has performed, directed and created drama shows in Argentina, Colombia, USA, Italy and Indonesia. He’s been teaching drama, physical theatre and Contact Impro in England, Italy, France, Germany and Argentina. He’s been invited to teach and perform in the International Contact Improvisation Festivals in Orvieto (It) and Freiburg (Ger). He currently directs the physical theatre group "Teatro Terra di Nessuno" in Italy.

The Vehicle of the Senses
with Ilka Szilagyi (Hungary/USA)
Sunday 15 July

We have an idea about our senses and our sensations. We have a vocabulary to express what’s happening in our body, mind and soul. But are we able to capture everything? Or there are other things to find beyond what’s familiar? In this workshop we will explore our senses, sensations and interpretations. Researching the physical, emotional and energetic self and connection with others, we will find and articulate our boundaries and permissions, embrace and transform our judgments into vehicles that help us to get and give what we need and clearly communicate through movement, touch, sounding and speaking.

Ilka Szilagyi has been practicing contact improvisation since 1998 and teaching since 2000. She started in Budapest, Hungary and she studied with leading teachers from USA, Europe and Hungary. In her teaching, Ilka is focusing on effortless, playful movement, body-mind consciousness, and sense opening, luscious dances. Ilka performs regularly in the US and Europe. She performed in works by Brenton Cheng, Karl Frost and Scott Wells & Dancers amongst other projects. Since 2003 Ilka lives in San Francisco where where she earned certificates in Massage, Somatic Education and soon will be a certified Somatic Movement Therapist through the Moving On Center. Ilka’s many interests have a central theme: the connection and awareness of the body and mind. In her classes and therapeutic sessions she focuses on bringing the sensations of the body and emerging emotions to consciousness. She guides the seekers in the exploration of their inner world with mindful presence, compassion and tender confidence.
