“5 Ways to Walk Towards Yourself”
Monday 6th – Friday 10th October 2008 10.00 am – 5.00 pm daily
You are invited to join in a week of “active investigation” into landscape, performance, memory, body and narrative.
The week will offer daily, guided warm-up explorations of the body’s expressive potential that then moves out into physical investigations in nature and landscape.
By moving through the many-layered textures of landscape, and by observing and expressing different horizons, we shall bring the environment and the body together with our thoughts as a form of “expressive landscape” for individual and group exploration.
We shall work with body and mind with daily walking and working in landscape. We shall move and create in the studio to investigate our actions and memories, shaping the “findings’ of our active memories into narratives that shape “the other”, a flexible proposition about expressing our inner and outer selves.
We shall work to create “bodies of memory” that contain our stories; stories of seeing, thinking, touching, remembering, moving, creating, as a person, an artist, and as part of a landscape. If landscape is grounded, flexible and detailed, can we be too?
The week will end with a sharing of material, in the diversity of forms expressed.
Anyone interested in dance, performance, music, visual, tactile, sonic and all related disciplines, is invited to join us in this research week.
Angus Balbernie, co-director of “SomaTerra:Para”, an ongoing research project investigating the body, landscape and the tuning of body-in-landscape will join with Jenna Agate (choreographer) and Trevor Timms (psychotherapist and bodyworker) at The Studio on the Green to lead this 5 day workshop open to all.
The Studio On The Green is situated in the beautiful Scottish Borders countryside within walking distance of wild hills, valleys, forests and rivers. The market town of Selkirk offers inexpensive accommodation in B & B’s, Hotels, a campsite by the river and a youth hostel. There are plenty of cafes, take-aways and restaurants. Selkirk is a one hour drive from Edinburgh and one and a half hours from Carlisle and is on direct bus routes from both.
Costs: £150.00 for the week. (£135.00 conc. and £95.00 for students in full-time education)
All participants will receive tickets for Natasha Gilmour’s The Blank Album at The Eastgate Theatre on 9th October
