Contact, Improvisation, Performance
A weekend workshop with Shahar Dor
15th & 16th November 2008, 10am- 4.00pm Movingartsbase, Islington, London
In this Workshop we will dance where the Physicality of Contact Improvisation, the Freedom of Improvisation and the Tools of the Performing Artist meet, aiming at the simultaneous experience of utmost freedom and utmost discipline. We will aim to extend movement possibilities and creative freedom, while specifying the physical story telling in relation to space, timing, scenery and image creating in Solo ad with Partners. We will work to connect our unique intelligence, individual vocabulary and physical skills, looking at specific-ness & communicative-ness while sharing work.
This practice is, Being moment to moment, having a communicative available body and an artistic vision as we compose spontaneously with and without audience.
Participants are asked to bring supporting costumes/objects (dress, suits, shoes, umbrellas) that will allow them more playfulness, character, depth, satisfaction, possibilities, challenge and creativity as they explore and show work.

About Shahar;
Shahar is an Improviser, Performer, Choreographer, Teacher and Artistic Director of Artness.
He explores, perform and teaches the art of improvisational performance through movement, theatre, music, live still photography and video. Since the age of 15 Shahar has been involved in performing arts and in the last 15 years with improvisational performance, collaborating with artists and institutions from all over the world, leading dance & theatre projects, teaching and performing in Israel and Europe.
Shahar is known for his character driven and cinematic approach towards the body and his corresponding eye with other arts and crafts in performance. His practice and exploration draws on a variety of movement-presence-performance techniques, vocal work, music & video, martial arts and the practice of meditation. His image based teaching and works creates an extensive vocabulary and shows a remarkable degree of humor, sensitivity and freedom in the communicative aspects spontaneous performance. As a Teacher Shahar has a natural unique ability to read and reach the most inner presence of his dancers and students and support them in touching the simultaneous experience of outmost exploration, discipline, expression and freedom of then selves and the dance.

Based in Israel, Artness operates as a live art house for the practice and exhibition of improvisational multidisciplinary performance and as an agency and organization operates around the world, organizing workshops, festivals, creative projects, exhibitions and meeting points for sharing and exploration of the unspoken knowledge and practice behind performance.
