British Waterways are currently undertaking major conservation repairs at
Bromford
Junction on the Grade II listed Horseley Iron Works bridges located at the site.
The
repair works include the repointing of brickwork, repair of the cast iron
including
repainting and access improvements to the bridge decks.
Whilst the contractors are present at the site it is proposed that the brick
hovel located at Spon Lane Lock 3 is made structurally sound. To
conserve the structure in its present state its existing concrete roof
has to be removed and the remaining brickwork needs to be repointed with
lime mortar. The repair and stabilisation works to the structure will
be kept to an absolute minimum and aim to conserve the former hovel as
part of this important historic site.
British Waterways welcomes your views on the proposal to remove the
existing concrete roof which is a relatively modern addition to the hovel. If
you wish
to contact British Waterways directly about the proposal then please email
