This message has just come to me from Clive Henderson, Chairman, IWA Midland Region.
I know it's not BCN but near enough to warrant your interest.

Just to keep you advised and to ask for your presence and support in
Stratford this Saturday: Feel free to share with anyone you think might be
interested.
We have just heard that it goes to the SDC planning meeting on 12th July and
that the planning officer is recommending it is granted. So it could be the
end. I attach a PDF of the documents going before the Planning Committee. I
intend to speak and object but in 3 minutes and against the recommendation
to grant, despite there being 77 letters submitted (I hope that includes
emails but it seems a low number based upon the ones I have seen), I do not
expect to win it on the day on my own.
There is a protest there at Bancroft this Saturday from 12.30pm organized by
Stratford Voice (see details below - it would be good to see any of you
there if you can spare the time to join us) but I fear it will not save the
bridge as BW do not object to its removal (care of our Waterway Heritage -
you must be joking) so unless English Heritage have a last minute rethink
and grant my request to have it listed (or at least considered for listing
which buys us time) I fear it is doomed.
At least we tried - not much comfort when people turn up and see the new
monstrosity in place and ask why we didn't stop it. Thanks to all who wrote
or emailed SDC on the subject.

Stratford Voice Protest:
Our protest against changes to Bancroft area is to take place this Saturday
7th July. TV, Local Radio and newspapers have been requested to be present
between 2 and 3pm ; we are hopeful all will feature the event. The protest
will meet at Swan Fountain at bottom of Sheep Street just over from Theatre.
We will be there from Approx 12.30 with a desk copy of plans on A boards
etc.
The protest will feature a guy with chain saw attempting to chop down a
condemned tree. Condemned notices will be placed on approx 50 trees. There
will also be a banner saying " Preserve The Bancroft and its heritage" plus
placards saying things like Cut down Planners not trees,
Another World Class mistake!!!!!! Rather see trees than Theatre
Apologies for short notice but we had to organise quickly so protest could
take place before strategic Planning meetings. The Planners are obviously
anxious about protest and have requested a meeting before event (declined
until after protest) and prompting articles in local press etc
Any presence from yourself, IWA or Stratford Canal Society would be
welcomed.
Apologies for short notice but we only finalised details last night.
