Subject: [CanalScapeBCN] Bankfield Works Steel bridge
Elizabeth,
Interesting about the survey- I have been trying to get a date for the
Bridge, which seems to have avoided mention in BCN minutes. It had a very
definite function there were 2 x 5 ton cranes that conveyed material over
canal to the packing shop and railway siding within the building.
I am trying to find a date when this railway siding was installed.
It is intrigiung that there was a previous bridge in the same spot, but of
narrower dimensions that crossed the canal to Hattons, the previous occupier
of the site.
Did wonder on two possibilities (1) bridge & siding made as First War
Measure or (2) done after take over by Lysaghts/GKN 1919/1920
More importantly, what about the New Transformer Shop with canal basin made
1935-1936, that had canal born traffiv in sheets from Sankeys works at
Ettingshall?
Best regards
