Can anyone help with this query received today about a swing (or
possibly lift) bridge that used to be on the Hatherton Branch of the
Staffs & Worcs Canal? I have given the enquirer a further link on our
website (www.lhcrt.org.uk/cbw28other.htm) which gives a bit more
detail, but if anyone knows anything else, or where I might find a
picture, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hello
I would be grateful if you could pass this email on to anyone you know
who might be able to help me identify the location of a swingbridge on
the Hatherton canal as it passes through Bridgtown
Your website (www.lhcrt.org.uk/hatherton.htm) has been a big help to
me in locating where in Bridgtown the canal ran and I think the place
I am looking for is the bit referred to as
"The short arm leading to the basin was spanned by a towpath bridge
and an unusual lift bridge and there was an aqueduct over the Wyrley
Brook".
We have been casual supporters of your organisation for about 5 or so
years and always give a wave to the aquaduct as we pass under it… we
were therefore delighted (in a strange sort of way) to discover that
we had a link to the history of the canal - although a slightly morbid
link - my husbands great-uncle (Isaac Holmes, age 11) fell from the
swing bridge and drowned in July 1903.
Grateful for any suggestions as to where we could find out some more
information about this Bridgtown swingbridge
