Tame Valley Canal [Scanned]   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #247 of 613 |

Greetings.

I am compiling information about the Tame Valley Canal.

I want to start at Hamstead and I want to appeal for any information, especially old photographs, of the Hamstead Colliery loading basin.

When I was a child, this was still in use. Over the years, the bridge for the mineral railway with a tipping mechanism disappeared, the old boats sank with just parts protruding from the water, and finally, in about the late 1960’s, it was drained and infilled.

Do any members have memories of this basin ?  Do get in touch.

Allan
