The Education Show was held at Hall 11 & 12 NEC for three days commencing
Thursday 28th finishing Saturday 1st March at 1600.
It is show that provides considerable resource and information ideas for the
classroom and teacher. Stand L21 Wild Over Waterways, Hall 12, is manned by
education staff from BW Peels Wharf. Unfortunately their attempts to promote
canals may be at the expense of historical accuracy
Their information pack on the Birmingham Canal Navigations includes such
statements that Did you Know there are three canals in the centre of
Birmingham- these were listed as the original BCN, Birmingham & Fazeley
Canal and the Worcester & Birmingham. No mention was made of Warwick Bar and
the Warwick & Birmingham Canal.
Another statement- In 1824 Thomas Telford drew up dramatic plans to
straighten the canal (ie BCN) using aqueducts across the valleys and
cuttings through higher ground.
Perhaps keen BCN ites might tell me of all these aqueducts- apart from
Stewards and Engine, that is.
