Dear All
a press release relating to the coal chutes dismantling was issued
yesterday. please see copy of this release below.
Dismantling of Coal Chutes brought forward
Due to the recent spell of good weather, work to prepare the Sandwell
Park Colliery Coal Chutes for dismantling has progressed faster than
expected. The English Heritage archaeological Level Three recording
process has also been carried out more swifly than anticipated. As a
result of this, the chutes will now be taken down tomorrow (Wednesday
14 June) at 12 noon. The work will be carried out by contractors for
British Waterways.
Archaeologist Malcolm Hislop from Birmingham Archaeology, who has
been appointed by British Waterways to record the chutes, will be on
site to continue the recording process throughout the dismantling as
further evidence comes to light.
